POEMAS DE LA LUZ
This album introduces the Hatun Charango, a variation of the traditional charango designed by this talented, innovative Peruvian composer. The characteristics of this instrument are tailor-made for the artist’s creative needs, and allow him to explore a new point of view on a claissical and contemporary reprtoire. Federico thus presents the world with the acoustical richness of the charango, its expressivity, and its adaptability to a universal language.
Born in Huaraz, Ancash, in 1972, Federico is considered one of the most important young Peruvian composers, having developed a new technique to play the charango and founded a school which doubtlessly has become part of the Latin American musical heritage. His giftedness is not only demonstrated in the performance, which takes technique to unexpected levels, but also in a search of expression that urged him to develop the hatun charango, an instrument that can be adapted to his own aesthetic needs. Federico discovered his passion for the charango early in life. He studied classical guitar and composition in the National Music Conservatory of Lima. He delivered charango lessons in the National School of Folklore José María Arguedas for four years, while he started to write his book The Modern School of Charango. He specialized in composition in the conservatory of Saint Petersburg, Russia, and in classical guitar in the Music Institute of Freiburg, Germany. He has composed numerous pieces for different instruments –in addition to concert, chamber and orchestra music and electro-acoustic music– where he includes elements of the Andean culture. But apart from being an academic and a scholar of music, he is a true innovator. For his permanent search and exploration at a theoretical, performance and musical creation level in addition to his mastery at a technical and expressive level, Federico is a true representative of the vanguard Peruvian Andean music, epitomizing better than anyone this new breed of national talents.
